Work has been extremely draining lately that I decided to give myself a well-deserved self-proclaimed long weekend. It was a scorching hot Saturday afternoon when I arrived at Novotel Manila Araneta Center. As I entered the lobby of the hotel, I noticed that there were quite a number of families and groups, both locals and tourists, checking in and checking out. I thought to myself that there must be something about this hotel to attract this number of guests and that is my mission to find out.
Welcomed with refreshments, my friend and I were warmly received at the Premier Lounge for our personalized check-in procedures. We were booked at an Executive Room at the 20th floor, having high-end bathroom amenities and complimentary Premier Lounge access - not to mention an excellent overlooking view of the city and the amenities. The room was accented with pops of colors adding a flavor of fun and vibrancy, which gave me the impression that this four-star hotel brands itself as a refreshing design-oriented hotel catering more to leisure travelers.
At the front and center of Novotel's unique bedding experience is the very inviting Live N Dream mattress that's exclusive to the hotel chain. This dual-technology mattress is composed of micro pocket springs and a memory foam layer that provides ample back support. And while a tub is not in sight, the room makes up for it with an industrial three-partitioned bathroom situation.
After settling in at our room, we went on to give ourselves a tour of the hotel. We started on the 6th floor where there is something for everyone with the colorful playroom and playground, the swimming pools, fitness center and the 6th Pool Bar and Lounge. The Premier Lounge on the 24th floor is a treat in itself. Every time we entered the motion censored glass door of the lounge, the friendly staff proactively asks for the drinks we fancy at the moment.
The lounge never runs out of refreshments from bottled juices and beers to well-prepared coffee and tea. While the lounge tends to get filled during the afternoon tea, where they serve pastries and finger foods, it did not feel crowded as the seats are very well spaced out. And as each day comes to an end, a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect company to watch the glorious Manila Bay sunset through the high glass walls of the lounge. The evening cocktails offer a generous spread of finger foods and a decent choice of red and white wine.
One of the stand out privileges of having Premier Lounge access is the exclusive buffet breakfast. While the buffet breakfast at the Food Exchange Manila (FEM) at the ground floor of the hotel offers a wide breakfast selection and has a large seating capacity, it easily gets filled halfway through the morning. The lounge breakfast may only have a portion of the selection at FEM but the simple joys of a private dining experience are hard to dismiss.
During our stay at Novotel Manila, I cannot count the number of warm and friendly interactions I've made with the hotel staff. They will help you even before you realize you need assistance and they never fail to check in on how our stay was going by thus far. Engaging in these exchanges is proof that Novotel's brand of hospitality is strongly built on the simplicity of conversations.
Being Premier Lounge guests, we were entitled to a late check-out until 4 PM. After the seamless check-out procedures, the staff happily received my luggage for storage as I still had to do some errands in the vicinity before going home.
Centrally located at the heart of Araneta Center in Cubao, Novotel is towering in close proximity to the Smart Araneta Coliseum and the Araneta Bus Terminal making it a perfect hotel choice for concert-goers and for travelers heading to the provinces. Novotel Manila truly offers its guests a warm and refreshing hotel experience like no other. And together with the Accor branding it carries, the top-notch service it provides probably drew the people it saw the first time I set foot at the hotel.
